Interesting

I spent sometime thinking about what I had learnt all these weeks of traineeship. I am feeling much confident about using Summon-different search strategies, limiters, dropping into a folder and emailing/saving  according to different referencing styles, etc. Also navigating through different libguides is so important at you are guided systemetically finding information.

I had been working on libguide since the beginning of this phase and discovered the profile boxes had dropped from the right hand corner. I tried myself moving  it going to edit/resixe but no avail. Sought help from IT  as well as colleagues but stll could not figure out. Finally decided to create a new one, thanks Rachel for showing how to reuse the old box. I could reuse the same libguide by choosing re use existing one, and it was really very quick. And I discovered  the code that I put in had the hanging red bottom ...so now i have discovered the problem...need to fix it..
I also did search on latest publications for resources related to research, and discovered summon finds the libguides too! So if we want a particular libguide we can put it in summun- for example "research methods", "tep", "law guide" and lo it finds the libguide for you!

Afternoon I had a brief introduction on Collaborate Classroom.

I went to a meeting with the school of education and was very happy to withness Michelle Turner being awarded for all her hard work helping  Cambodian students.
So, librarianship is not just about library but reaching out to clients who come from different background. It also involves lots of work related to teaching and learning- lesson plan, presentation, etc.

Friday 3rd May 2013

I have attended a couple of workshops run by Michelle and Bernadette with different group of students last week on 24th and 26th April(26th being public holiday). The group had their essay/assignment topic. They showed how to search with different search strategies, forming keyword and synonyms, etc. Michelle’s class was with Navitas students.
Referencing sources and referencing activities : locating and saving resources, record citation details and understanding different referencing styles.
I also went with Barbara to a class in Orange 1 to deliver training on locating information.
Also attended Bernadette’s Endnote training from 11-12 am on 1st May.
Rest of the time I spent on checking links and tidying libguide and going through My Research Page. I also realized some of the links on the said page do not work: My Research-preparation-library resource-chapter 2-getting started is not working. I requested Ujjal to help me embed eSpace search box in theses libguide. But there are some problems arranging boxes.
I also spent some time doing tutorial in Contribute.
I attended Sally’s workshop on 2nd May from 10:30-12:30. Introducing to library services, distance services, Libguides, midwifery guide, cinahl, referencing, health online, activity, quiz..so interesting!
I am checking in catalogue for the resources that are in yellow folders for Barbara. And I have done service desk statistics for reference queries between 4-6 for last semester and this semester.
In the afternoon : Open Access: Gold Access and Green Access ,workshop preparation, checking copyright restrictions in Sherpa Romeo
Contribute : embed current slideshare links.
I am meeting Anne at 10:00 am today. ..it went well with yummy bana, fruit, almond cake made by Suzie in RIS's tea room.waw..yum!
In the afternoon I will attend a meeting with the Department of Education from 2-4 pm tomorrow with Mitchell Turner.

March 2013 - Library Traineeship

Graduate Traineeship

It has been a great learning curve throughout these two months. Initially I felt so overwhelmed with information and got very excited to learn everything. But looks like I am feeling much better now as learning is a gradual process and I can only grasp step by step.

I am very grateful to my supervisor, Jayshree Mamtora, for being so patient with me.

I have learnt to search Summon- search engine which searches across everything within library-online or full text, limit by date, content, save to folder and export according to different style guides. The most interesting part is how the reference information can be exported ..waw so cool!

Databases: Cinahl plus-advance search: search strategy, key words, broad search, narrow, limiters, etc, folders, and export options.
